At a stop sign, what is your required action?

At a stop sign, you must come to a full stop before the stop line or before entering the intersection. After stopping, look carefully for cross traffic and pedestrians, and yield to them if they have the right of way. Only proceed when it is safe, then enter the intersection with caution. You stop even if there appears to be no immediate traffic, because other vehicles or people could be legally in or approaching the intersection. This rule keeps everyone moving safely and helps prevent surprises at intersections.
